At the beginning of summer, Roland Rydstrom, a resident of Alaska, had an extraordinary experience in his backyard.
One morning, as he opened the curtains, he was surprised to find a female moose with her two adorable cubs, comfortably settled on the grass, basking in the sun.
Roland had heard about calves being born to two females in the nearby forest a few weeks prior, but this was his first close encounter with the moose family.
Interestingly, the young mother didn’t seem bothered by his presence and didn’t pay him much attention. She appeared to be content with the size of the backyard, the surroundings, and the quality of the lawn.
Taking advantage of the unique opportunity, Roland snapped some photos of these rarely-seen creatures from just a few steps away.
Expecting the moose to leave shortly, Roland settled down to work. However, to his delight, the moose family stayed for a while, occasionally turning to bask in the sunlight.
He recalls the joy of watching the baby moose playing in the grass and even knocking over a pot of marigolds while attempting to scratch itself.
Twice during the day, the moose family ventured into the forest and returned later, exploring everything in the backyard, including chewing on garden chairs, displaying their curiosity like human babies.
However, at around 7 pm, a competing moose family arrived in the yard and began to attack the resting moose and her cubs. Regrettably, the mother and cubs had to leave the peaceful sanctuary.
Despite this, Roland cherished the unforgettable encounter and hoped that the moose family might visit him again someday.
