Fearless Kitty Rescue in Fountain Hills has welcomed a new addition to its care—a black cat that was discovered on the street confined in a closed cooler bag.
The cat had been left by its owners on a bench designated for donations, where people could leave unwanted items for the homeless and those in need.
In Arizona, the animal inside the sealed container was in grave danger without access to air. Passers-by failed to notice the motionless bag on the bench, leaving no hope for the trapped creature.
Fortunately, nearby was a smart and observant dog named Koda, a husky. Koda caught a whiff of the distressed animal and led her owner to the bench. Recognizing the dog’s concern, the owner opened the bag to find a perspiring and barely surviving cat.
It remains unknown how long the cat had endured such suffering and how much more she would have endured if Koda hadn’t discovered her.
Immediately, the rescued animal was taken to the El Dorado veterinary clinic, where she received prompt medical attention. Despite the ordeal and pre-existing health issues, no serious conditions were found.
The clinic bestowed the name Juliane upon the cat. In Danish culture, Juliane means “fearless,” a fitting name for their resilient new charge.
Juliane has proven herself to be a true fighter, and perhaps it was her indomitable spirit that allowed her to endure the ordeal for as long as she did.
Currently, Juliane is undergoing rehabilitation at the clinic, steadily regaining her strength. Plans are underway to find her a loving new home.
Meanwhile, the shelter has submitted an official request to law enforcement agencies to investigate the incident. The owners who abandoned the cat, putting her in harm’s way, may face substantial fines and be prohibited from owning pets in the future.
