Djibril, a baby chimpanzee, was born at Malaga Zoo in Spain. This subspecies of the western chimpanzee is in danger of extinction, so the baby’s birth was an important event. Unfortunately, the mother abandoned him, but the staff found a way to solve the problem.
A mother chimpanzee named Kika from Malaga Zoo in Spain could not take care of her cub. She had once been rescued from an African circus where she had not learned maternal skills. So when she had cubs, she didn’t take them in and couldn’t take care of them.
The birth of Djibril was a joyous event for the zoo, as this subspecies of western chimpanzees are nearing extinction. That’s why Kiku was originally sent to the zoo – to save the species. The staff had to find another female chimpanzee for baby Djibril to take care of and raise.
During the search for a “foster mom,” the zoo staff took care oDjibrilil. So that he wouldn’t feel lonely, they decided to give the baby a plush chimpanzee toy. His reaction to the plush mother charmed everyone – Djibril became very attached to her.
They found a new mother for Djibril. Djibril has a real chimpanzee mom named Eva living in the BIOPARK in Valencia. The baby was moved there, and he and Eva slowly began to get used to each other.
Although Eva had never had children of her own, she immediately took Djibril under her care. She began to care for him and show her maternal feelings. She and the baby quickly bonded, and soon they were inseparable, like a real mother and cub.
